Auto and Homeowners Insurance Information
Home and auto insurance often go hand in hand. Depending on your coverage, you may also be able to bundle policies to save money on coverage. It’s important to be aware of the elements of these types of coverage so you know which policies you need and your agent can help you find the best coverage possible. Our Bush Insurance & Financial Agency agents are here to help you with your home and auto policies.
Homeowners Insurance
Homeowners insurance is a property insurance policy providing financial protection after disasters. It can help pay for repairs after a covered incident like a severe storm or fire. It may also cover your possessions and structures that aren’t attached to your homes, such as a fence or detached garage.
Your home insurance policy also includes liability coverage, which may cover costs related to lawsuits, medical bills and related expenses.
If you have a home loan, your lienholder may require that you carry specific types and amounts of homeowners insurance to protect their interest in your property. Your agent may recommend additional coverage, depending on your situation.
Your home insurance policy may not include coverage for flood-related damage. If you have concerns about flooding in your area, talk with your agent to learn more about getting this coverage.
Auto Insurance
Auto insurance protects you against financial loss if you have an accident. It is a contract between you and the insurance company; you agree to pay the premium, and the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as defined in your policy.
Auto insurance provides three types of coverage:
- Property coverage pays for damage to or theft of your car.
- Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.
- Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses.
Most states require you to buy some but not all of these coverages. To finance a car, your lender may also have coverage requirements. Most auto policies are for six months or a year. Your insurance company should notify you by mail when it’s time to renew the policy and pay your premium.
